OXFORD ARMS | Balliol College, Placement of Wife's Coat of Arms

Balliol College has impaled the arms of the 5th Baron John de Balliol and his wife Lady Dervorguilla Galloway, with the wife's arms dexter. 

The dexter position is normally that of the husband, but in the case of a royal wife to a non-royal husband, the wife's arms are properly dexter. 

In Balliol's case he was a baron but had no claim to royal ancestry, whereas his wife was the daughter of a Regent, Alan Lord Galloway.
